EXTRA, EXTRA!
- So finally we have confirmation that the proposed freight interchange will be lorry to lorry. NO ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFIT whatsoever of getting lorries off the road and on to rail.
There is no benefit associated with this development – only SEGRO the developer will benefit financially. - The land is planned to be sold for £30m by Herts County Council. The estimated commercial land value is £225m. Our council tax will have to cover this. Or the improvement won’t happen.
- Herts CC HAVE NOT secured agreement for SEGRO to pay the more than £100m costs for upgrading the A414 and A405 that would be required to carry the projected extra 4-6 MILLION vehicle movements a year when the site becomes operational after 5 years of construction
The lack of a direct motorway link (the only ‘strategic’ interchange in the UK without one) means ALL these movements will need to use our local roads, which are already appallingly congested and potholey. - This is designated green belt land, with newts, owls, badger, skylarks etc. Herts CC says they will be ‘relocated’. Good luck with that! I can’t even catch a mouse in my kitchen…
- Five of those huge stripey warehouses (like the ones on the side of the M1) are proposed. The largest one is bigger than the Terminal 5 Heathrow building alone.
- The development would be very close to residential areas in Park Street and Frogmore – but the whole of South Herts will be affected by the additional traffic. (And the whole of Hertfordshire for council tax bills…)
